the security paradox

At its surface, in this series, the images seem to depict individuals safeguarding their vehicles, but upon closer inspection, to me it is very telling of a common human trait. This series is symbolic of our relentless pursuit for security. We seem to devote a significant portion of our lives trying to shield ourselves from adversity, pain and uncertainty but is it even possible? Are we ever truly ever fully secured in our lives?

"To put it still more plainly: the desire for security and the feeling of insecurity are the same thing. To hold our breath is to lose our breath. A society based on the quest for security is nothing but a breath-retention contest in which everyone is as taut as a drum and as purple as a beet.”
